Is it possible to limit or set bandwith use of computers on a wireless network?

I'm new to WiFi and home networking but I'm planning to set up a wirless network at my home with approximately 6 different computers connected to it. Is it possible to assign the ammount of bandwith each computer can use? Also can anyone recommend good wifi home networking software?

Yes it is. You will however need to have an intermediary service in between to control the amount of bandwidth between the PCs' and the router. Most routers do not come with the ability to control the amount of bandwidth at a network node level.

You will need to setup a proxy server that would 'collect' requests from your PCs' and forward the requests to the router or firewall. A proxy server will also cache all requests and hence when a similar request is made by another user, it is served much quicker and at the same time saving bandwidth.

Below are a couple of products you can use:

%26gt; Checkpoint Floodgate - http://www.checkpoint.com/products/flood...

%26gt; Charles - http://www.xk72.com/charles/index.php

%26gt; WinGate - http://www.wingate.com/

If you can provide further information on what you wish to setup on your wifi network, I could possibly suggest a number of options.
