I want to set up a home network on 3 computers?

I want to set up a home network on 3 computers .One is running windows ME one using XP and I will be getting a notebook with vista.I only need wireless on the notebook I can run wires to the other 2 computers if needed.I want to share the one printer and the internet mainly.What is the best and or lowest cost method ?and what will I need to buy?

Get a Wireless Router. The Linksys - WRT54G (http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite... is a really popular and inexpensive option.

As said above, install the router near your internet modem. You can run an ethernet cable to computers nearby and use the wireless capabilities for the other computers.

A wireless/ethernet router is about all you need. One of the computers should be the host, and the other two set as slaves. I'd definitely make the XP one the host. That will be the one your router and modem are connected to. It would probably work best to run a cable from the XP to the ME, as we never could get the wireless router to work with ME even after hours ont he phone with tech support. After getting all the settings right on the XP, you just run "network setup" on both of the other computers, and it will walk you through step by step. Good luck! Oh, one more thing, understand that your printer will take a while to print anything from the slave computers. Sometimes, it takes as much as 5 minutes, but that could just be that I need a faster cable from one of the ME's.
You'll need to buy a router, one with wireless/Ethernet combined would be best. After that, go on to whichever computer you use most and create a network using the network wizard. Then go onto each client computer and add them to the network you just created.

Sharing printers can also be done in the network section of Windows.
Never mind routers, they are too expensive and wireless is not secure, no matter what people say.

Get a switch. They are cheap and cheerful and will do you proud.
i'd buy a wifi router. You can run wireless and wired, and they are not expensive.

If all three have wifi, then you just need to run network settup wizard on xp and create a cd for the other two.
