Can you split a telephone line to connect two computers with internet (DSL)?

I have a computer in one room with DSL connection thru Ethernet Jack and I would like to add an additional telephone line with internet (DSL thru Ethernet) in the garage. I have an attic where I can go into and split the line. Is this possible by simply splitting the line in the attic? Would I be able to use the internet on both computers at the same time? Thanks.

by only one procedure u can do it go and purchase a Ethernet/lan hub and connect 2 computers on the hub and then connect the Ethernet wiire on hub also then the connection will be splitted

but

the main problem is that the connection is splitted as well as speed so the speed will be slow

Yes but keep in mind that you're sharing the bandwidth. Think of it as a pie. If you you're getting 50%, then there's only 50% left for the other guy.
Just get a router, and you'll be all set
If your DSL is slow now, wait till you split the connection between two computers. It will be half the speed you normaly get.

Instead of crawling at turtle speed, you'll be at a limping turtles caravan speed. S...l...o...o...o...o...w! V e r y Slow!
thats what a wifi router is for.
Yes, you can do so easily using a wired or wireless router.

Is it possible to connect 2 computers to the same cable modem?

They are sitting right next to one another. Is there something similar to a phone line splitter that I can attach to the wire coming out of the modem and connect both computers with an ethernet wire?

I read anothers note of a cross over cable, that would do it you want. It's called a Serial Link Cable, Nice but you should use a router. And again wired is safe.

What your answer is to why it won't work is you have the wrong cable modem. You need one that has the ethernet included. Mine is wireless with 4 ports for ethernet and 1 USB connection for the computer. Either upgrade to a router or change modem to one that has router included. (May be cheaper to find a routher and use ethernet)

PS: Make sure your modem hooks to your usb and not the ethernet card, if you get a router. If not you will have to find another way to connect the router ???? Most Cable Modems will use both USB/Ethernet to hook up, but make sure.
i have a speed stream 5200 modem and i have my computer hooked up to the modem via usb and my Xbox 360 hooked up via Ethernet.

Why does my myspace overlay look different on other computers?

Is it their screen resolution? Is it their browser? If I wanted it to look the same on everyone's computers(or just most computers) how would I do that? Just make it small enough for everyone?

What's a word to encompass computers, electronics, and gadgets? Also another for consumers.. (s

I am trying to divide up a few subjects and need general category terms.

1. Computers, technology, electricity, engineering, science, physics

- I am thinking maybe "Tech" or "Technology" but would like a few others to choose from. I don't think sci and physics necessarily fall under "tech."

2. Lawyers, law, and consumers

- I am thinking maybe "Society" or "People" but neither of these sounds all that great to me.

3. Morality, marriage, psychology, children

- I am drawing a blank here. "Stuff that matters and is very important in life," sheeesh I don't know. Help me out, please? :)

4. News, politics.

- No four letter words please, I'd like to keep it serious.

What's a word to encompass computers, electronics, and gadgets? Also another for consumers.. (see details)malware

well.. I see your dilemma

but its not a lack of terms you've actually thought of plenty. In fact, I believe that's the problem..over thinking

For Example, number 1:

You went from suggesting a term for "Computers" but then broadened it all the way to "Science"! Well, Science is category all its own, because it's so broad. If your looking for something encompassing "Technology", which embraces Computers, and Electrical gadgets, then I would use Technology or "Tech" like you said...that's actually pretty good.

How can we setup 2 more computers to our high speed internet connection??

You need a hub or switch. Switches are much faster and more reliable than hubs. I highly recommend Linksys switches. You can find a good one for about $40 at a computer store.

Plug your high speed internet cable into the switch. Then plug as many PCs as you want into the other switch ports. It's that simple!
What dan said
i would buy a router.. switches are kind of old fashioned these days and only can go up to a certain speed. Call CDW 800-800-4239 for technical support. They can help you out and they will answer the phone within 1 minute!

yep, ics or internet connection sharing is a very poor idea, u said u have 1 IP address, idk if this is ur public IP or a private 1 ur university has givven u

either way the way 2 go is with a router

if u have any additional questions on how this works

google the term "subnetting"

GL
Set up a wireless network.

That way you can share stuff like printers and documnets aswell as an internet connection
Get a router not a hub then you can hook up both pc's
the IP is unique u cant use the same in 2 PCs, but u can make 2 ips in the same PC and one have the Internet connection and share it with the other but they should be in the same network, check the windows help, by clicking F1 while you are in the desktop
Simple:

Get a router, and plug in the IP address directly into the router.

A router is designed to make a NAT network to 1 or more computers, essentially creating a "private" IP network.

To your ISP, you will be using your 1 IP address, but you can have more than one comptuer using hte connection.

additional configuration? depends on the router

It's not WIFI you need, it's a broadband connection. It varies with where you live and if cable is available in your area or not.
