Is there a way to test the computers in my BMW 325I-e36-1994?

My car won't start but it cranks. I have had all the wires checked. It won't give out a code. This car has two computers. Both of them Bosch, both considered ECM - DEM. One of them is the silver metal square, the other the black sq-rectangle shape.

Yes there is - in some markets the computers will have 2 LEDs and a small switch that you turn with a small screw driver. The result will be a series of flashing lights that are a fault code. The net will give you the answer to these codes.

The other type has a dagnostic plug that a special hand held unit needs to be plugged into A job for an Auto Shop

If your car is a US spec car there will be a diagnostic plug under the dash. You can buy a small handheld code reader and pull any codes stored in the computer with the reader.

Check your fuses also. You'd be amazed how those little things can stop a car dead when they blow.
