i read somewhere that there is gold a copper in computers...is there enough to slavage and make $$...if so how?
Is there really gold and copper in computers?ariel
Yes there is, and there is an entire industry built around harvesting the reusable metals from computer equipment. It is a good thing, too, as these materials leach into the environment when the computers end up in landfills. Some of the other metals in computers include lead, mercury, and zinc, aluminum and iron. Just about everything in a computer can be recycled, it just takes a lot of infrastructure to accomplish the task, and you need to have a lot of computers available to make the process cost effective. In the end, the recyclers make a profit similar to the profit margins obtained by miners. In a sense, there is an interesting lesson in this issue for any would be prospectors- Try to find the ore with the highest concentration of desirable minerals. Then remove the minerals from the ore...

There are people who sell bulk cpu's. You have to heat them up and collect the gold. I don't know what's involved, but there is a market on ebay for this.

Yes there is, however, I doubt you'd be able to salvage (not slavage) enough to make any money.
Yes there is and no its not profitable to try and salvage it. By the time you scraped what little gold is in the PC and then payed to trash the leftovers, you would have spent a dollar on getting rid of the PC for the penny worth of gold.
What a line JP! I work for a company that replaced the pcs every 4 years, I'm talkin big company! 300 pcs at least! You couldnt give them away! You couldnt find any sign of a salvage company that wanted them! I dont think you people realize just what quantity of gold is in a pc. Less than a 10th of a gram!
