Apple, Inc. is the owner and producer of Macintosh computers. The guy who kick-started the machine right at the start called it a Macintosh in homage to his favourite eating apple - McIntosh. For trademark reasons they used Macintosh for the name instead. (I think it was Jef Raskin who came up with it).
Apple loves to play with words when naming it's products (take a google at some of the pre-production project names Apples uses some time - some of them are screamingly funny)
When Apple created the first PDA - they called it Newton. Why Newton? because an Apple fell on Isaac Newtons head enabling him to come with his theory of gravity.
Let's hope they never lose their sense of humour.

cute, but no. :) Just the symbol and name chosen by mr. jobs. :)
yes they moonlite at 2 jobs (pun Intended)
Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak incorporated Apple COmputers Inc. in 1976. Woz was a computer engineer undergrad and Jobs was a hobo. Neither coined the Macintosh Apple fruit.
Steve Jobs founded Apple computer company. They are often called MacIntosh or "Mac's" because one variety of Apple is a MacIntosh. It is just like Dodge has a pickup called Ram. It has nothing to do with sheep.
