You should decide on an area to focus on first, such as programming, databases or networking, because you could study any of those areas for years before you're really an expert. I'd personally choose programming to study first, just because it appeals to me and also because I've known more programmers who know database/networking/security etc. than I've known networking or database people who can program, but that might be just because I'm a programmer, but I doubt it. Anyway, here are a couple of places where you could start:

Go to Wikipedia and start reading:

If you want to take the more academic path, go to MIT's Open Courseware and study every course that they offer online:

just buy a used one and keep fixing it and in a year you will be a expert
Learn and master Unix. Freebsd.org / netbsd.org / openbsd.org would all be good places to start. You really can't get by with unix without learning heaps.
Find someone who is an expert and hang around with them. That is the best way to learn, but if you can't do that, rip open a computer, take everything out and put it back together (preferably an old one that you don't need), and ask Google if you have questions about what things are inside or how things work. That is a good step one. You can read or study as much as you want, but it is a whole other thing to actually look inside a computer and see how things work.
go to school.. AMA *LOL*
