You can use a ethernet cable used for networking, by crimping the RJ45 connectors (the white plastic connector heads) in a crossover connection which is done specially for connecting two computers only. Normal crimping which is used to connect computers in a network through a hub/switch will not work. Your local computer shop should be able to crimp a cable of required length for you. Both of your computers should have a network card to insert the pins. After the cable is in place you can configure a new network connection to identify and create a network connection between the two computers. You can give each computer an ip address for example 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.3 and a subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Then enable print and file sharing on each computer.

this will give you every thing you need to know about networking
It goes like this. Step 1) Take LAN cable and connect both computers together Step 2) Click the "Set up a home or small office network" button on computer A (make sure you remember what you called that network) Step 3) Do the exact same thing on computer B (meaning use the same network, if don't want to try to remeber, just leave it as "mshome") Step 4) click the "add network place" in order to find shared files between the computer and you're done!
